Morinville – A number of local youth have been framed this week, but it’s all been in good fun. Beyond the Frame, an interactive art exhibit from the Art Gallery of St. Albert, has set up shop in the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (CCC) and has already had a visit from one school group and the 1st Morinville Beavers ahead of its public opening this Friday night.

“It’s just a wonderful opportunity for kids to participate in art,” said Laurie Stalker, CCC manager, noting rather than sit back and observe the art, children get to go right into the art exhibit itself. “It is a picture frame, and the kids walk into it and draw and add their own creations to the exhibit.”

Stalker explained inside the three-dimensional exhibit there are a number of white boards where participants can create their own art which then forms part of the larger piece. Additionally, set up around the exhibit are a number of stations where participants can create additional art. “They’re making shadow puppets that kind of relate to the magical forest that’s in the exhibit itself,” Stalker said.

This weekend’s public performances will have two performance artists inside the frame guiding young people on their artistic journey.

Stalker said cost of admission is $2 per person. Show times are Friday night at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday morning at 9:30 and 11 a.m. – Saturday afternoon at 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m.

As the number of participants is limited for each session, those wishing to attend are asked to reserve a spot by calling 780-939-7888.
