Lion’s tourney fills MCHS

Morinville – Volleyball players from Morinville Community High School hit the court Thursday afternoon for the opening games of the 17th Annual Lion’s Western Canadian Challenge Invitational High School Volleyball Tournament.
The action began with the MCHS Lady Wolves facing a team from Leduc Composite High School. The girls were defeated two straight – 25-14 and 25-19. Next up were the MCHS Wolves who also squared off against Leduc. The wolves took the first set 25-23, fell 21-25 in the second set and came back to take the victory 16-14.

Although the majority of schools are from Alberta, two teams are coming from outside the province, one from Vancouver, B.C and another from North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Provincially, schools from Edmonton, Ardrossan, Leduc, Medicine Hat, Calgary, Peace Wapiti, Vegreville and Lloydminister are a few to join the competition.

Games continue through the weekend with finals on Saturday at 5 p.m. at MCHS and Bellerose Composite High School.
