Morinville – There is plenty happening over the weekend in and around the community, from community suppers to plenty of hockey action at the rink.

Pleasant Homes Garage Sale
Annual fund raiser for the Morinville Food Bank Society takes place Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Pleasant Homes, just west of Morinville. Plenty of items and bargains to be had.

Community Supper

It’s been a productive year for the Morinville Centennial Community Gardens and to mark that success, the local gardening group will be teaming up with the Morinville United Church to hold a community supper Oct. 28.

The supper will consist of beef stew and all the fixings along with strawberry shortcake for dessert. A vegetarian option will be available. Loseth said she is hoping those who used the garden plots will donate some of their produce to the supper.

Money raised from the supper will be donated to the church as a thank you from the gardeners. Door prize tickets will also be sold as a fundraiser for the Morinville Centennial Community Gardens.

The supper takes place at the Morinville United Church (9610 Morinville Drive) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28. Adults are $7.50, 12 and under are charged $5, and there is no charge for those three and under.

Streets and Sidewalks Play

Residents will have the opportunity to view the past 100 years of the community in a special way Friday night. Streets and Sidewalks, an original play by Calgary-based playwright Jacqueline Russell, will be presented at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. But make no mistake; this play is no recitation of dusty dates and dry facts. Rather the play is a performance that encapsulates 100 years of history through the memories of residents.

The library will also be on hand Friday night with their limited edition centennial bookmarks. One hundred numbered bookmarks were manufactured and will be available at $15 each. Bookmarks numbered 1 and 100 will be auctioned off during the evening’s activities.

Tickets for the play are $5 each and available at vintage Petals, Smith Music and the Morinville Public Library (Parish Hall). Tickets will also be available at the door. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
