Jets take down Riggers in overtime

By Stephen Dafoe

Morinville – The Jets resumed the 2011-2012 CJHL season Friday night with a road trip to Leduc where they earned a 4-3 overtime victory.

The Jets ended the opening frame tied with the Leduc Riggers 1-1, but advanced themselves to a 3-1 lead by the end of the middle frame. That situation was reversed in the final period with the Jets failing to capitalize on their chances but allowing the Riggers to pocket two to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. With 18 seconds left in overtime, Dalen Paul earned the Jets their road victory. Paul’s game-winning goal was assisted by rookies Brady McCorriston and Tyler Kampjes.

The win brings the Jets’ season record to 18-8-2 and helps them maintain their top slot in the West Division.

The Jets play three games this week. Tuesday night the Jets play in Morinville where they take on the visiting Edmonton Royals. Friday the Jets travel to Stony Plain to take on the Flyers. Sunday sees the Jets play another home game, this time against the league-leading Sherwood Park Nights. Tuesday night’s home game is at 8:30 p.m.; Sunday’s game is 6:45 p.m.
