Jets playoff bound

By Stephen Dafoe

Morinville – Back-to-back wins over the weekend propelled the Morinville Jets closer to sitting out the first round of CJHL playoffs this season. The Jets travelled to Fort Saskatchewan Friday night and picked up an 8-1 win over the Hawks. Sunday’s home-ice game against the visiting North Edmonton Red Wings resulted in an 8-5 victory for the Jets.

With 24 regular season wins thus far and 50 points in the standings, the Jets have broken two records this season in terms of wins and points. Seated firmly in the West Division’s top spot, the Jets need to secure one point in their remaining two games to be assured a bye in the first round of playoffs, a position the club has never held in its more than 30 years of existence. A first place finish would also give the Jets the home-ice advantage in the second round.

The Jets travel to Edmonton Wednesday night to take on the 17-15-4 Mustangs, and return home Sunday night for the final regular season game against the 22-11-3 Beverly Warriors, a club nipping at the Jets’ heels for a first round bye.

Game time for Sunday’s regular season finale is 6:45 p.m. at the Ray McDonald Sports Centre.
