Morinville News election poll shows little surprise

By Morinville News Staff

Morinville – With election day just a few days away, many readers are still trying to decide just who to vote for in Monday’s election. Those who took our informal web poll on the five candidates running in Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock provided results that show no real surprises – the Wildrose and PCs are close.

Westlock County Councillor Maureen Kubinec placed highest among our poll takers with 41.43 per cent of the vote. Kubinec was followed by former Alberta Report publisher Link Byfield with 30 per cent of the poll vote.

Trailing in third place is Alberta Liberal candidate Leslie Penny with 10 per cent of the vote. Penny was a popular participant in Monday night’s All Candidate Forum at the cultural centre. Whether that will translate well into the final vote tally Monday remains to be seen. Penny ran for the Liberals in Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock during the 2008 general election and came in second to PC Ken Kowalski with 15.25 per cent of the vote.

NDP candidate Trudy Grebenstein and Morinville resident Lisa Grant, who is running for the Evergreens, tied for fourth place in our informal Internet poll with 5.71 per cent of the vote.

A larger percentage of our voters 7.14 per cent chose none of the above.

Voting takes place at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre Apr. 23 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Two more advance polls will be held at the same location Apr. 20-21 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

  1. Raj is the only hope of saving health care in Alberta and Canada by doing away with the Health authority. This monstrosity owns the hospitals outright and can sell any part or all of it for what ever prices they like without checking with the Legislature.

By doing away with this, and starting up Regional Health boards again we are protecting our private health care. He also championed reducing or eliminating tuition as a means of graduating more physicians from Alberta.

His is the only solid plan of the whole works. Wild Rose are still peddling their cure all nutbag selection of one liners that mean nothing except do it like the do in the USof A

  2. I am voting today friday as I willl be out of town on monday. I am taking a senior with me to vote as she cannot walk that far to vote.

We have not heard of any transport being provided for voters without a car
and the MCC is not the easiest place to access for alot of people. I do hope there is a good turn out all across Alberta in the advanced and on monday. Thank you.
