Morinville – The 21 Notre Dame Grades 3, 4 and 5 Relay Team members are ready to go said Physical Education teacher Tina McKinnon. The Relay team members will be leaving Wednesday afternoon to participate in the St. Albert 17th Annual School Relay Meet to be held at the Fowler Athletic Park. “Notre Dame will be participating alongside students from five St Albert schools; Bertha Kennedy, Marie Poburan, J.J. Nearing, Neil M.Ross and Robert Rundle,” said Christina MacKinnon event organizer from the Marie Poburan School.

She has 63 teams with 12 races and six teams in each race. The distance is four by 200 meter relay and most kids have some kind of running club they have been involved in to get ready for the track and have practiced passing the baton. There are no disqualifications, the event is open to all students and this is an opportunity for them to learn quick sprinting. The event has two categories said MacKinnon, the Grade 3 and 4 teams and the Grade 5 and 6, and it is girls versus girls and boys versus boys.

Notre Dame Teacher Kathy Mahony said she has been running with the students in the morning and they practice stamina and developing core strengths with squats and sit-ups. Teacher Ryan Plamondon does the relay race and teaches them the techniques.

Of the 63 students involved in the Running Club only 21 will be attending on Wednesday afternoon. The event takes place from 4 to 5 p.m.
