Morinville – The Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce will be hitting the links at a few months earlier this year. The annual golf tournament and barbecue will be taking place June 18 at the Cardiff Golf and Country Club and organizers are excited about the possibilities.

“We decided to do it in June this year because we thought it might be good to catch everyone before holidays rather than September when we’d be hoping for good weather,” said Chamber Manager Jaye Parrent. “It’s going to be a great time.”

While the date has changed, the purpose has not. Parrent said the Chamber golf tournament is a fun day where everyone gets together to network, meet new people, and to promote their business. Participation in the tournament is open to business owners and non-business owners, good golfers and even those who have never golfed before.

“It’s a really great opportunity to network in a casual environment,” she said. “Everybody has a good time and gets to know each other on a more personal level than strictly a business level.”

The tournament levels the playing field in some holes. Parrent said participants can expect some novelty holes again this year, including some perennials like longest drive with a marsh mellow and blind-fold putting. But the fun does not begin and end with novelty variations on golf. The Chamber will once again have food and beverage holes as well as plenty of door prize raffles, all provided by local businesses.

Registrations prior to May 31 are $85 per golfer and include 18 holes of golf, power cart and a barbecue dinner. Those registering after the early bird deadline will pay $100. Early bird teams of 4 can register for $320 or $380 after May 31.

More help needed

In addition to looking for golfers for the June 18 tournament, the Chamber is currently looking for a few more people to volunteer as well as businesses to sponsor holes and provide raffle prizes.
