RCMP looking for bike-riding stabbing suspect

By Morinville News Staff

Morinville – An early morning stroll home from the pub resulted in a stab wound for a 29-year-old Morinville man.

RCMP report a woman and two men were walking home from Rednex Bar Saturday morning when they were approached my three males riding BMX-style bikes. An altercation ensued and the bar patrons were allegedly attacked by the three bike riders. The incident took place around 3:15 a.m.

Constable Yelena Avoine of the Morinville Detachment said the woman was thrown to the ground, one man was struck in the head with what is believed to have been a pipe-like object, and the second man was stabbed in the back (shoulder area) with a knife. The latter was taken to hospital and released with no serious injuries.

Avoine said police tracking dogs were called in but could not pick up a scent of the suspects who had fled the scene, riding off in different directions.

Few descriptions were provided by the victims other than those of the bikes they were riding. The attackers are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 21. One is said to have long hair. In her statement, the female victim said she believed she recognized one of the attackers, leading the police to suspect the trio are locals.

Constable Avoine said police do not believe the incident was a random attack and feels the public has no need to worry. No robbery attempt was made.

  1. I have a question:

Can ANYBODY tell me where our NINE “DEDICATED-TO-MORINVILLE” RCMP officers and our TWO CPOs were when all this was going down??

It seems to me that, with a total of ELEVEN peace officers employed by this Town, at least ONE could be on patrol at bar closing time!

  2. I agree with Ben. I got a $210.00 ticket for expired plate at the 4 way stop, with no warning or opportunity to get it rectified right away.( ultimately my fault), but where are their priorities. Filling the coffers is much easier than dealing with crime.

A week ago saturday about 3am, on the open stretch just east of the stop sign, 3 cars and several people were arguing about someone being too drunk to drive. You could here them 2 blocks away. They running back and forth across the the street for over half an hour.

  3. Wow. That’s scary stuff.
Events like this are the reason many of us moved out here. If this continues, I can guarantee that Morinville will no longer be seen as a small, safe community, and we will all pay the price for it.

I’d echo Jim’s comments as well. 11 dedicated law-enforcement officers… and we see nothing but a huge increase in vandalism and now violent crime (a few scary incidents this year).

How does one open a discussion about enforcement priorities here. We need to ensure our community remains a safe and desirable place to live.
