Morinville – Pleasant Homes is putting on their philanthropic hats once again to help the Morinville Food Bank Society. The local home builder is preparing for their annual garage sale and will once again be matching every dollar raised from the sale.

Although the bargains will not be on display until Oct. 26 and 27, Pleasant Homes co-owner Gary Hauk said donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in advance of the annual event.

While the sale offers a wide-variety of gently-used and even new items, Hauk said clothing will not be accepted. They are asking donors to ensure the items dropped off are good items that can be easily sold. The businessman said larger items are accepted and, in some cases, can even be picked up from donors. Some of the things that sold particularly well last year were bedding, furniture, tools and anything to entertain children: toys, DVDs and video games.

The two-day event is an opportunity for Pleasant Homes to do something for the community by holding the sale and matching every dollar raised from it, but also an opportunity for the community to support the Morinville Food Bank Society by donating to the garage sale and patronizing the event.

“The idea behind it is to feed families, and we didn’t realize how great the need was in Morinville until we got into doing this for about the third year,” Hauk explained. “They [Food Bank] have become really reliant on this as an annual part of their source of food. Nothing feels better to me than watching a kid eat.”

Next month’s garage sale is the sixth annual event organized by Pleasant Homes for the Morinville Food Bank Society.
