Rovers are rockin’ at new Morinville pet salon

Morinville – Canine coifs are looking pretty stylish these days and a new Morinville business wants to be at the forefront of the new trends in four-legged fashions.

Lynette LaForest recently opened Rock’in Rovers, a pet salon that caters to all breeds and specializes in creative hair designs for pets. Located above Popular Pooch Daycare on 90 Avenue in Morinville’s industrial park, LaForest offers a full service business for pet owners.

The ability to express her creativity was what motivated the 25-year-old businesswoman to become an entrepreneur. “I worked for a large company as a manager of a salon for a large amount of time, and I just decided there wasn’t a lot of creative freedom,” LaForest explained. “People are putting colours in their [dog’s] hair, feathers, and I felt like that was something that I wanted to do. I felt there was a demand for it, especially in my age range.”

In addition to the creative cuts she started her business to be able to do, LaForest said there is considerable demand for regular cuts as well. She is happy to get pets looking their best no matter what the owner’s personal tastes are. Regardless of the style, it is the personal service that is key.

“I felt that there was a need for someone that does it in a shop, alone, one-on-one with the dogs,” she said. “I let the dogs have free roam of the space. I feel there’s a lot less stress that way.”

It is a philosophy she feels is a stark contrast to salons where there are a lot of dogs, a lot of people, and a lot of unnecessary stress on the animals. “I found dogs didn’t want to come into grooming. They were scared every time,” she said. “I felt there was a need to make it fun for them. That’s what I’m really trying to do.”

All about loving dogs

The business is a natural fit to go with the doggie daycare located downstairs. With dogs exercising, playing and resting the day away while owners are at work, there is plenty of time for bathing and grooming

Rock’in offers full-service grooming, specific cuts for specific breeds, de-shedding, nail trimming and ear cleaning. Whatever the need, it is a love of animals more than anything else that puts LaForest in the service of her four-legged customers.

“I’m a people person – I love meeting new people, but I’m specifically an animal person,” LaForest said. “I love my dog and I love the dogs as if they were my own dogs. They’re loyal and they love unconditionally. People can say they love unconditionally, but scientifically speaking I feel that there are always conditions. With my dogs, it doesn’t matter if you are grumpy or how you look.”

Rock’in Rovers is open from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday; however, appointments can be made between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday bookings run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information contact Lynette LaForest at 780-996-7019.

  1. I was so impressed with the great job Lynette did grooming my “geriatric” dog who has lots of old age bumps and lumps. My pooch was in and out within an hour and a half and I could tell that special attention was paid to her old age spots. I love that she books grooming on an appointment basis where dogs don’t have to stay for hours on end in kennels. I will surely use her again in the future! Thanks Lynette. Phoebe looks great, see you next time!
