Garage sale to aid Morinville Food Bank Society

Morinville – There are less than two weeks left until bargain hunters will be able to go hunting. Pleasant Homes, located west of Morinville just off Highway 642, will be opening its doors for their 5th Annual Charity Garage Sale Nov. 16 and 17. Once again this year the funds raised through the two-day event will be matched by the local home manufacturer and donated to the Morinville Food Bank Society.

Linda Ferguson, a sales representative with Pleasant Homes for the past decade, got the idea for the garage sale some years ago as a way to give something back to the community.

“I feel that as a business in a community we’re expecting the community to support us. What can we do to give something back to the community?” Ferguson said. “It got started that way and kind of escalated. Now we get calls asking when the garage sales is. It’s becoming well known.”

Ferguson said she hopes to increase the amount this year over previous years. A high mark in the half-decade history of the fundraising event was $2,500, an amount that when matched by the local manufacturer brought the total food bank donation to $5,000. “I’d love to be there but I’m not going to be disappointed if I’m not,” she said.

Ferguson said the garage sale draws a wide-range of items, including furniture, tools, kitchen items, musical instruments and other items. Donations are still being sought ahead of the sale and can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday up until the event.
While the sale offers a wide-variety of gently used and even new items, clothing will not be accepted. They are asking donors to ensure the items dropped off are good items that can be easily sold. Larger items are accepted and, in some cases, can even be picked up from donors. Some of the things that sold particularly well last year were bedding, furniture, tools and anything to entertain children: toys, DVDs and video games.

The garage sale takes place Nov. 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information call Pleasant Homes at 780-939-3584.
