HERE ARE A FEW THINGS HAPPENING IN TOWN THIS WEEKEND

1/ Pleasant Homes Garage Sale for the Food Bank is Friday and Saturday 9 – 5. Always great deals.

2/ The Green Bean will introduce the Joe Morinville Vegan Sandwich to the menu beginning Friday at noon.

3/ Vintage Petals 12 days of Christmas began Thursday. Pop in the store and get a free gift. The next two days are Saturday and Wednesday – a different gift each day.

4/ Snowflakes and Stars takes place Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Admission is free of charge.

5/ Morinville Jets home game Sunday night 6:45 p.m. at the arena.

WHAT’S GONE

Setting some boundaries
Sturgeon School Division Namao/Guthrie Trustee Tracy Nowak was explaining the new Morinville ward at the Open House held Thursday night at the Morinville Public Elementary School. The Electoral Boundaries have no impact on school attendance area or transportation services. It may affect parents through the potential of a different school trustee or the potential for a difference between school attendance area and trustee. An example presented was a Cardiff resident whose children go to school in Morinville. If they wish to run for Trustee they must run in Ward 6 Cardiff and not Morinville Ward 5.

The current electoral boundaries have been in place since 1983. New developments and population growth have taken place since that time.
With the addition of the Thibault and Legal School District, the Sturgeon School Division now also includes Morinville, Legal, Bon Accord, Gibbons and Redwater area. There are currently seven wards and this number will remain the same with one ward being the Town of Morinville.

The Board will make recommendations early in the New Year to the Minister of Education so everything can be in place by the beginning of March. Changes would be in place for the upcoming election in October 2013.The election will allow eligible voters to run for the newly formed Morinville Ward, which is currently under the guidance of Trustee Nowak.

Thursday was the last of the four open houses, none of which were well attended. Less than 10 participants attended each of the events.

Light em up

Four wheels of food
Frontier Honda Business Manager Paula Hopkins-Mullen holds a bag of food for the Morinville Food Bank. RV City and Frontier Honda are supporting the Morinville Food Bank and Santa Store and are looking for donations of non-perishable food items to fill the Honda FIT from now until Nov.22.They are also collecting new unwrapped toys for boys and girls until Dec.12. – Lucie Roy Photo

Lazing about for a cause
MCHS Councilor Deborah Wood was attired for the Student Council Habitat for Humanity PJ Day on Wednesday. Participants paid $2 to wear PJs for the day. The money collected was donated to the cause. – Lucie Roy Photo
