RCMP looking for info on house shooting

By Morinville News Staff

Sturgeon County – Police are looking to have a chat with those responsible for firing off a shot at a rural residence Sunday morning. Police received a call around 9 a.m. that a shot had been fired at a home on Range Road 272 and Township Road 564 in Sturgeon County.

RCMP officers confirmed one shot had been discharged from a firearm, and an examination of the scene confirmed a single bullet had penetrated through the exterior wall of the living room of the residence, and came to rest after striking the fireplace. Although the home was occupied at the time of the shot being fired, no one was injured in the incident.

Police do not believe the house was targeted – hunters are suspected to be the cause of the shot. RCMP say visibility was reduced by heavy snow falling in the area at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520 Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

  1. The fourth rule of firearms safety states – Identify your target and what is beyond it. Cleary if it was that snowy the shooter should not have fired. I said “shooter” as a “hunter” would have been more responsible.
