Letter: Re Christmas shopping in Morinville

Editor’s note: The following commentary is in reponse to our Nov. 19 post announcing the Shop in Morinville Christmas Shopping Guides would be in mailboxes Nov. 20

Editor:

Although I would love to shop and support my community, it never happens because the genius business owners usually close up shop by 6 p.m. I don’t know how many times I have had to go to Home depot because [the local alternatives] were closed.

The majority of people living in this town do not work in Morinville. We usually get home around 6. No wonder businesses do not last long here. The people who spend Money go to St. Albert because they are open until 8 or 9 every day.

We all have seen businesses come and go, but I for one have noticed that the majority of these businesses only cater to the day crowd. Many households have to deal with the reality of everyone working full time jobs outside the home. Business has changed, and it would be nice to see some owners “test the water” and keep some doors open later and let the public know about it.

The catalogue is a great idea, look forward to seeing it, but at the end of the day, 95% of these stores close when the majority get home from work.
