Morinville –It’s festive Friday at Higher Grounds Espresso Bar Nov 30. That’s the night the coffee house’s monthly Hot Dogma open mic night gets in tune with the season for a Christmas-themed evening of community entertainment called Feliz Navidogma.

Organizers are looking forward to showcasing the local talents the show will assemble. As always, all are welcome, but this time around the coffee shop is asking performers to make sure their songs and acts have a Christmas flare to them.

“It’s a time of celebration,” said Higher Grounds volunteer Judith Irlam. “We’re celebrating the gift of Jesus coming for those of us that are Christians. And for those of us that aren’t, we celebrate the season. And it’s the season of the light coming back.”

Irlam explained regardless of someone’s reason for celebrating the season, it is the right time for an uplifting show. “We need to do this in the winter here,” she said. “We’ve got to make life happen.”

Hot Dogma nights have been popular over the last year, offering attendees a lively slice of local talent in a family-friendly environment. While the theme has changed for the night to keep with the season, one thing that will remain the same is the atmosphere.

One local musician who has become something of a regular at the monthly show is Paul Smith. The professional musician and local music school owner said he loves the laid back atmosphere of the Friday night gatherings. “I truly love that you can come here and it’s for all ages,” he said. “It’s a place that is family oriented and it’s fun. People have a good time and it brings out the best in people.”

Feliz Navidogma takes place Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at Higher Grounds Espresso Bar, located on 100 Avenue next door to Don’s Bistro. Performers aged 10 and above are welcome. For more information or to book a slot call 780-939-5154.
