Morinville – Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA Maureen Kubinec presented Mayor Paul Krauskopf with the Chain of Office Tuesday night in a special ceremony prior to the start of the Nov. 27 Council meeting. Mayor Krauskopf was appointed and sworn in as Mayor of Morinville Nov. 13 after former Morinville Mayor Lloyd Bertschi submitted his letter of resignation.

“Paul has been an important advocate for this town for many years. I am so pleased that he is stepping into this new role,” Kubinec said before placing the mayoral chain of office around Krauskopf’s neck. “He was born and raised here in Morinville, and he brings with him an understanding of the history and the spirit of Morinville as well as a wide range of experiences from working in our education system to representing the citizens of this town as a councilor and as deputy mayor.” Kubinec went on to praise Krauskopf’s involvement in local clubs and organizations and his commitment to the community.

The Town of Morinville’s ceremonial regalia pays homage to Morinville’s administrative and mayoral heritage. It was introduced in a special ceremony June 22, 2010. Former Morinville Councillor Joe Gosselin proposed the idea of a mayoral chain of office some years before.
The approximately three-foot-long collar is adorned with maple leaves, the Alberta wild rose and the coats of arms of Morinville, Alberta and Canada. It also bears the name of every administrator and mayor back to the community’s beginning with room for 15 future mayors to be added.

Mayor Krauskopf’s term of office runs until Oct. 21, 2013, the date of the next municipal election.
