Morinville – RCMP are turning to the public for information on two mischief incidents they believe may be linked due to proximity. Police received two separate complaints Friday. The first from Heritage Lodge indicating a number of electric cords used to plug in vehicles had been stolen. The second complaint was from nearby Morinville Public Elementary School where a garbage can full of recycling paper had been taken to the school where unknown individuals tried to set it on fire.

With respect to the garbage can, Morinville RCMP Constable Yelena Avoine said the individual or individuals were unsuccessful. “It was set on fire; however, it was really wet so it didn’t really do much,” she said. “It’s not their garbage can. It was brought from somewhere, and it may even be from the Heritage Lodge.”

The police believe the two incidents were not in isolation of one another. “There is probably a link to the incidents because it is almost the same area,” Avoine said. “We don’t have any suspects but we are looking [to see] if anyone would have any information about suspicious individuals overnight or late January 17 around that area.”

Morinville RCMP are asking the public for help in solving this crime. Anyone with information is asked to call the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
