Here’s what’s on this weekend?

Festival Society breaking the ice with family fun

The Morinville Festival Society is looking to help families beat the winter blahs by taking one of Canada’s great pastimes indoors. In their first mini-festival outside the annual St. Jean Baptiste Festival, the society is bringing a street hockey skills competition to the cultural centre Jan. 26, tying the event to the Will Stroet children’s concert taking place the same day. The event is sponsored by Champion Petfoods. Look for their referee shirts on festival volunteers.

Below is a list of the day’s events. Please note – the hockey skills time has been changed to start at 10 a.m.

Vancouver-based children’s performer Will Stroet will be bringing his Backyard Band to Morinville for an afternoon concert at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre Saturday. The 50-minute performance is geared to kindergarten and younger children and Stroet is promising an afternoon of entertainment that will keep them involved.

“It’s a very interactive musical experience,” Stroet said. “We get the kids very involved with the show with actions and some choruses and that sort of thing. Parents, families and kids can expect to come and have a really good time, and to be engaged and take part in the show.”

Tickets for the Will Stroet show are $10 and available at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre box office or online at www.morinvillencentre.ca. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26. The Stroet show takes place at 2 p.m.

Farmers’ Market is on

It may be frosty and snowy outside, but the products and produce will be available inside the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. The market is being run in conjunction with the Children’s Festival, and will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
