Column: From the Desk of the Mayor

I had the great pleasure of attending the grand opening of the Morinville Public Elementary School (MPES) on Wednesday, February 6th. The passion and emotion in the building were evident in anticipation of the ceremonies that were about to take place. Morinville Council and Administration welcome MPES of the Sturgeon School Division and look forward to the opportunities that this creates for the children and families in Morinville. As Morinville continues to grow there will be more reasons to choose Morinville as a place to “live, work and play” and choice in education is one of those reasons. I wish the staff, students and parents all the best as MPES grows and continues to be an integral part of the fabric of our diverse community.

“The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.” Diogenes Laertius

I would also like to thank all the residents and visitors who took part in the annual Snowman Festival held this past Family Day weekend. These events were very well attended and fun was had by all.

This festival, and others that happen in our Town, would not happen without the hard work and dedication of numerous volunteers, who put in countless hours all for the benefit of our residents. Many times, these volunteers “work” behind the scenes and don’t receive the full recognition they deserve. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your dedication in making our community a better place to live, work and play.
