Thefts from cars results in charges

By Morinville News Staff

Morinville – Two local teens have been charged with possession of stolen property and a third youth has been charged with other criminal code offences after a call from a concerned citizen.

RCMP say they received the call around 1:50 a.m. June 19 that some youth were entering vehicles in the area of 105 Street and 95 Avenue. RCMP officers attended and apprehended four youth matching the description given by the complainant.

Police believe the youth, all aged 15, were entering unlocked vehicles and taking change, small electronics, and other items.

The identities of the three charged are being withheld due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The investigation is ongoing and the youth may be facing additional charges.

RCMP are reminding residents theft from vehicles is a crime of opportunity. Unlocked doors create that opportunity, one that only takes a few seconds to separate property owners from their property.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
