Morinville – About a dozen local basketball players came to Council Chambers June 25 to offer thanks to Mayor Paul Krauskopf and Council for their support of the program through the Town’s Community Grant Program.

Mayor Paul Krauskopf said he was pleased with what the Road Runners have accomplished over the past few years. “It’s been great for Morinville and I’m sure great for their self esteem,” Mayor Krauskopf said.

Road Runners Founder Serge Froment said the program has been successful due to community support and the dedication of parents, coaches and players.

“I gush with pride to think of our superstars playing their hearts out to reach goals they never dreamed of,” Froment said, adding the girls were proud to march in the St. Jean Baptiste Festival parade June 22. “They live with an attitude of gratitude. They understand that the positive energy they put out comes back with interest. I’m proud to be associated with them.”

Earlier this year the Road Runners received funding that helped send three teams to provincials, which they won for the third year. The funding also helped provide training for coaches.

To show their appreciation, players presented Mayor Krauskopf and Council with a card and basketball signed by all players as well as a team photo.
