Morinville Mayor’s funeral set for Friday

Morinville – The Town of Morinville confirmed Tuesday afternoon that a funeral for Mayor Paul Krauskopf, who died Sunday morning, will be held at St. Jean Baptiste Church Friday, July 5 at 10:15 a.m. Not yet confirmed is a reception to take place after Friday’s funeral at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre.

Krauskopf’s funeral will be attended by an honour guard of Morinville Fire Department members in honour of his past association with the department as Deputy Chief, and a second honour guard of Knights of Columbus members. Mayor Krauskopf was a dedicated member of the Catholic fraternal order.

The Morinville Community Library will have a Book of Condolence on hand beginning Wednesday at noon. Mayor Krauskopf is a past Morinville Public Library Board Chair. The placement of the Book of Condolence at the library is both a tribute to his past involvement with Morinville’s library and an opportunity for residents to sign the book after work over the next two days. The library is open Wednesday and Thursday night until 8 p.m. The book will be presented to the family Friday or at an appropriate time thereafter.

While those in and outside the community mourn the mayor’s passing, the business of running the Town in light of the mayor’s death will be determined at some point in the future. Based on reliable information presented to the Morinville News Sunday, a special meeting of Council was to be held Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. Tuesday afternoon the town issued the following statement:

“A Special Meeting of Council will not be taking place today. Administration is providing Council with their options as per the Municipal Government Act and we will continue to keep the media informed of the Mayoral vacancy process as well as advising if or when a Special Meeting of Council may take place.”

The Morinville News will continue to keep the public informed on the particulars of Friday’s funeral service as they become available.

  1. Paul will be missed tremendously by all those who met and knew him, and even by those other residents of Morinville who did not know him. He was a thoughtful councilor and made a great mayor. I did not know him well personally, but through some of my work-related projects was introduced to him on a professional level and genuinely enjoyed the experience and talking with him!
