Morinville – After celebrating their high rollers with a casino-themed business award gala in 2010, a Roaring ‘20s theme in 2011 and a masquerade theme in 2012, the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) will roll the dice and move the pieces on a Monopoly theme this October, an event they are calling Chamberopoly. The Chamber’s 5th annual awards night will take place Oct. 17 at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre.
“The Chamber Gala is very important,” said MDCC President Simon Boersma. “We want to make sure we recognize our businesses. We have strong businesses in our community. So we want more businesses to come out and showcase their product and their businesses. We know we have a strong community and a strong community of businesses as a whole.”
Once again this year, awards will be given to the home-based, small, medium and large business of the year, as well as the non-profit business of the year. Additionally, the Chamber will award a Community Service / Involvement Award, Legacy Award, the MDCC Volunteer of the Year, and the Youth Entrepreneurial Award. As in previous years, the Chamber will also recognize those who have been members in excess of five years.
Boersma said the annual gala is more than an opportunity to recognize the community’s entrepreneurial success stories; the gala is also an opportunity for the business community to get together and let their hair down.
“We want to have some fun. We compete every day. We see each other on the streets and we say hello, but we really don’t always get to be comrades,” Boersma said. “This is going to be the night where we can hang and relax with one another.”
The Chamber President said attendees are encouraged to dress up in costume for the event. “Come dressed up as Monopoly figures,” he said. “We want it to be fun.”
Nomination forms are available at the Chamber Office or by clicking here. Nomination deadline has been extended to 2 p.m. Oct. 2.
