Morinville – It was a four-point opening weekend for the Morinville Jets. The Junior B club kicked off the Capital Junior Hockey League 2013-2014 season with a 6-5 OT victory over the St. Albert Merchants Friday night, and followed it with a 7-2 win over the visiting Wetaskiwin Icemen Sunday night.

Friday night’s road trip to St. Albert saw the Jets end the opening frame leading the Merchants 3-2 at the end of the first and 5-4 at the end of the second. Another goal for the Merchants in the final frame pushed the contest to overtime. Brandon Domoslai pocketed the game-winning goal for the Jets 3:48 into OT.

Sunday’s home opener was an easier victory for the Jets as the club kept the Wetaskiwin Icemen off the scoreboard for a period and a half. The Jets lead the first period 1-0 and quickly gained steam to build to. 4-0 lead by the mid mark of the second period. Seconds after the Jets fourth, Wetaskiwin answered back with their first. The period ended 7-2 in the Jets favour. The final 20 minutes bore no fruit for either team, and the Jets took it 7-2.

The team travels to the fort Friday night for an 8 p.m. game against the Hawks, then hits home ice Sunday night for a 6:45 puck drop against the visiting Stony Plain Flyers.
