Lighting the Night

Monica Chaisson was one of the more than 50 participants in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada Light the Night Walk held Friday night at the Morinville Fish & Game pond. On Friday night event organizer Courtney Duchesne said her goal was to raise $2,000, but the event $2,900 with more donations and pledges from the walkers coming in. There were 40 people registered and 27 of those raised $100 or more. Both Duchesne’s parents were at the walk. The nationally hosted Light the Night Walks are currently held in the fall and it is recommended to be in the early evening for the illuminated lanterns to have the greatest effect. The lanterns come in three colours: white carried by survivors, red for supporters, and gold, carried by those walkers walking in memory of a loved one. There is no charge to walk but fundraising is encouraged and a minimum contribution of $100 is required for a walker to receive a Lantern and Champion for Cures T-shirt.
