Morinville Jets topple Beverly Warriors

Morinville – The Morinville Jets ended a five-game losing streak Sunday night after defeating the visiting Beverly Warriors 6-3. The win brings the Jets record to 6-9-1 this season, and positions them in fifth place in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division, one point ahead of the Spruce Grove Regals and two points ahead of the Edmonton Mustangs.

Sunday night’s home-ice contest followed a 4-3 loss to the Stony Plain Flyers Friday night. Though the Jets fought a close match, Sunday’s efforts produced a wider gap between the Jets and their opponents. The Jets ended the opening frame leading the Warriors 2-1 and widened the gap to 4-1 by the end of the second period. The final 20 minutes saw the Jets follow the Warriors second goal of the game with another pair to lead the Warriors 6-2. The Warriors added another to their tally with 14 seconds left int he game, but were too far behind for it to matter.

The Jets take to the road for a Wednesday night game agains the Edmonton Mustangs, then return to home ice Friday for an 8:30 p.m. game against the North Edmonton Red Wings. The Jets end the month with another Friday night home game Nov. 29. They will face off against the St. Albert Merchants at 8:30 p.m.
