Publisher’s column: Another year gone by

If you are reading this chunk of writing in print, you may have noticed this issue is marked Vol. 4: Issue 1 just below our logo on the front page. Though it really is nothing more than a numbering system so we can keep our editions in chronological order without having to sort them by date, it is a pretty important number for this publication. It is important because it means the print publication has completed its third full year.

Five months after starting MorinvilleNews.com in 2010, I was pursuaded to partner with some others in creating a print edition, then called Monday Morning News. Though the partners have gone on to do other things and the print edition has changed names and formats, what was at the core of that early publication remains today: a desire to provide relevant and timely news about our community and its people.

I’ve always seen it fitting that our first issue contained a photo of a Remembrance Day parade because it is a reminder of the freedoms we have, including the freedom of the press.

As is always the case at these publication anniversaries, all that remains is to thank you, our advertisers who make the publication viable, and our readers who are the reason we keep our ears to the ground and our eyes on what matters in Morinville. Thank you.

  1. Congratulations!

The Morinville News is an important element in Morinville. It’s local and timely coverage of news, politics and events in Morinville and the surrounding area help to foster the sense of community which is so important. A house is just a house until you make it your own, and a town is just like any town until you take an interest in what’s happening in it. When those things come together you make a home and a hometown for your children. Morinville News helps everyone find out what there is to be interested in, in our town.

    Wishing you many more milestones.

  6. Stephen,

I want to thank you and the rest of your team for the work that they do. I rely on the Morinville News to keep me informed about what is going on in the community. I appreciate what you do up front, report the facts in a timely in an unbiased way, as well as the community work that is done behind the scenes. Our town would be a lesser place without this publication and I hope you have many more editions ahead of you.
