Guest column: Fromt he Mayor’s desk

This upcoming weekend is a busy one for our Town. The annual Light up the Night Christmas Festival runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1 with MANY things to do.

Let’s remember those less fortunate this time of year. Please give generously as we try to Fill–a-Bus once again. Come visit Council on Friday, Nov. 29 as we accept donations at No Frills (9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Sobeys (1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.), in support of the Morinville Food Bank and Knights of Columbus Christmas Hampers.

Saturday boasts many free activities at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (MCCC) starting at 10 a.m. The agenda is full of crafts, games, a visit from Santa, face painting, hot dog lunch, and special entertainment by Flyin’ BOB – One Man Circus.

The annual Christmas Parade starts at the Morinville community Cultural Centre at 5:30 p.m., and travels west through downtown. Dress warm and bring your holiday spirit. Join us immediately following the parade as we light up St. Jean Baptiste Park, and then walk over to the tennis courts to enjoy a beautiful fireworks show.

The weekend comes to an end on Sunday with a free family skate with Santa from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the arena, and a free family movie night (complete with popcorn!) at the cultural centre at 6 p.m.
These are just a few highlights of this action packed weekend. Please check our website www.morinville.ca for additional information. No matter what your age, there is something for everyone! Please join in the festivities in as we kick off the Christmas season!
