Ecole Citadelle held their Christmas Concert on Tuesday with an afternoon performance which was open to the community and for family members to attend. The theme – Christmas Around the World – included fourteen performances from Preschool, Kindergarten and up to Grade 9.

Morinville Royal Canadian Legion members Doug Crush and Danny Clarke were assisted by Ecole Citadelle Vice Principal Lisa Majera in presenting Daron Michael Cyr with a certificate, cheque and pin for first place at the Branch level in the Legion Literary Contest. Receiving second place for his age category was Justin Jung-Meng Too. The school was also presented with a School Program poppy Appreciation Award Certificate. The presentations were made Tuesday afternoon prior to the start of the concert.

The Georges H. Primeau and Morinville Community High School Christmas Band Concert took place Tuesday night at the MCCC under the direction of Nicole Baker G.H.P. Conductor and Corinna Cormier M.C.H.S. Conductor. The Grade 7 Band performed three numbers, Grade 8 Band performed two and M.C.H.S Band members comprising of students from Grades 9-12 performed four numbers.

The second edition of the Winter Classic Centralta took place Wednesday at the Legal arena. The Classic includes a tournament of hockey with three schools of the Centralta Zone of the Greater North Central Francophone Education Region No.2. The hockey teams that competed were from St. Albert The Incredibles from Ecole La Mission, the Scorpions from Ecole Alexandre-Tache and from Legal the Kodiaks from Ecole Citadelle.

The first match was a game of players from Grades 4 to 6 between La Mission School of St Albert and Kodiaks of Legal. The second match was with the Grade 7 to 9 students of Citadelle and Alexandre-Tache against the teachers, coaches and students of the Grade 10 to 12 of Alexandre-Tache.

For the opening ceremony Ecole Citadelle Principal Michelle Baril introduced Henri Lemire the General Manager of the North Central School Board and thanked him for his support of the Hockey Program from its inception and to his organizing committee for being able to move it forward. The Organizing committee included Claude Viel principal of La Mission, Eric Larouche teacher and coach of La Mission, Lise Gialet and Christopher Page teachers and coach from Ecole Citadelle, and Davie Pelletier coach from La Mission and 2002 Olympic Winter Games Gold medal winner. Guests included Patrick Henry from Radio-Canada (TV) as well as all the students, staff, parents and friends, employees of the school board who came in large numbers to support the players. – Lucie Roy Photo

Georgette Cyr was answering some questions posed by Mrs. Claus at the Christmas Lunch held at Chateau Sturgeon Lodge on Wednesday. The Lunch for residents, tenants and volunteers included acknowledgement of two staff members for 5 and 10 years’ service, and a gift from Sturgeon Foundation for the residents of the Lodge. Volunteers being recognized included Remi and Carmen Morin and Georgette and Norm Cyr.
