SRCW releases some crime stats
Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch released crime statistics for the month of January in an email to members Monday afternoon. According to the watchdog organization, the first month of 2014 saw RCMP responding to three break-and-enters, one theft from a motor vehicle, six thefts under $5,000, three cases of possession of stolen property, and 17 incidences of mischief. There were no instances of theft over $5,000 according to the report.
St. Albert experiencing vehicle break-ins
St. Albert RCMP were reporting four vehicle break-ins that occurred in the community Feb. 7 between the hours of 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. in the northeast part of the community. All four vehicles were parked by residences on Escada Close, Empress Way, Olmstead Court and Osborne Close. Each had a window smashed and items stolen from inside. Items stolen included a laptop computer, stereo system and speakers as well as some tools.
Locally, Morinville RCMP have seen a number of reports of valuables being stolen from inside vehicles, and continue to encourage residents to “lock it or lose it.” They believe locking vehicles helps eliminate the open invitation to thieves that an unlocked door or open window offers them. Police ask that residents roll up their vehicles’ windows, keep valuables out of sight, lock their doors, and pocket their keys. Anyone witnessing suspicious activities in their neighbourhood is asked to contact the police.
