Morinville’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Department funded some peacemaking workshops for Morinville students last week. The event was for youth from Grades 5-9 and discusses bullying.

The Town brought in Jeff McCann a singer, songwriter, artist and wellness facilitator who has been presenting workshops in Alberta since 2002. McCann’s May 26 stop at the cultural centre was his first visit to Morinville.

He spoke to more than 120 students on peacemaking attitudes and activities that students can do to make a difference. McCann provided information on asset building with an emphasis on staying creative through outlets, including dance, arts, music and inspiring other students to become peacemakers and not bystanders. He also spoke on media and manipulation and how much a person is willing to sacrifice to be cool.
McCann also delivered his 75-minute presentation twice on Tuesday.
