Local Cadets hold ceremonial review

The staff and cadets of 3061 1 Royal Canadian Engineers Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps-Morinville held their 15th Annual Ceremonial Review Tuesday night in the curling rink. The Reviewing Officer was Major James Boddy, who was posted to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment in 2013 and is currently serving as the Officer Commanding 13 Armoured Squadron. The parade included the Cadet Parade Commander Cadet Warrant Officer Fiessell and Cadet Parade 2IC Cadet Sgt. Brink.

A number of awards were presented during the ceremonial review evening. These included the Star Levels Green, Red, Silver and Gold as well as the National Star of Excellence Level 1, which was presented to Sgt. Brink. Other honours included the Most Outstanding Cadet Star Level Awards, Most Improved Cadet, Most Outstanding Cadet the Best NCM Award, Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence and the Lord Strathcona Medal.

The Lord Strathcona Medal is the highest award that can be bestowed upon a Royal Canadian Army Cadet and is given in recognition of exceptional performance in physical and military training. The award was presented by Major Boddy to WO Tyrell Brink who also received the Most Outstanding Cadet Award, and the Most Outstanding Gold Star Award. Brink was also promoted to Warrant Officer.

The Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence was presented to WO Allard, who also received the Best NCM Award, Gold Star and was promoted to Warrant Officer.

The Most Improved Cadet was presented to Mackenzie Terry who was also promoted from Sapper to Cpl. and received a Green Star.

The Most Outstanding Silver Star was presented to MCpl. McNaughton, the Most Outstanding Red Star was presented to MCpl Hartmann, and the Most Outstanding Green Star was awarded to Sapper Allard.

Graduates of the Red Star included Cpl. Bozak and Cpl. Hartmann who were also both promoted to MCpl. Graduates of the Silver Star included MCpl Gilbert, MCpl McNaughton, and MCpl. Flett, the latter of whom was also promoted to Sgt. Promotion from Cadet to Sapper was Campbell and from Sapper to Cpl. there was Allard, Kachur, Kootenay and Wallace. Graduate of Master Cadet was WO Fiessell.

Following the presentations and speeches there was a demonstration from the cadets of the equipment and items.
