The Second Annual Jessica Martel Memoril (JMMF) Run will take place June 22 at 8:30 a.m., departing from the Provincial Building (10008 – 107 St.) and winding its way through five kilometres of Morinville’s trail system. The run / walk is a fundraiser for the Jessica Martel Foundation, a local group that provides support to women and their families experiencing domestic abuse in Sturgeon County.

JMMF Vice President Laura Hennie said the inaugural event in 2013 had 207 participants. She and the organization are hoping that 300 adults and youth participate this year. “It doesn’t matter your level of fitness,” Hennie said. “Everyone is encouraged to come out. It’s a fun event.”
St. Jean Baptiste Festival Chair Paul Smith is also hoping people will support the cause once again this year. “This is an awesome event because it has so many people and it really is a representation of community spirit,” Smith said.

Registration for the race is $35 for adults and $15 for youth 16 and under. Prizes will be awarded to the top pledge collectors, both individual and team. Pledge forms are available at www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=10179. Individual fundraising can be set up for the event at www.giving.runningroom.com/hm/?sub=3.
