Council down two members for June 10 meeting

Council was done to four members for its June 10 meeting with a fifth attending the meeting virtually. Both Councilor Rob Ladouceur and Mayor Lisa Holmes were not in attendance at Council’s regular June 10th meeting. Councilor Brennan Fitzgerald attended remotely via phone and Skype while staying in Nova Scotia.

Town joins Communities in Bloom

Council decided to join the Communities in Bloom program, a national organization that judges communities based on their focus on enhancing green space. The Town will join as a non-competitive member. Joining for the year as a non-competitive member will cost the town $350 for a judging fee.

More information requested on concert series

Councillor Stephen Dafoe moved that Council receive a profit and loss report on the recent Calvin Vollrath and La Folia shows, as well as information to be brought back to the next meeting on how many shows have been booked for next season beyond the four that Council is currently aware. Councillor Fitzgerald opposed the motion. All others present voted in favour of Dafoe’s motion.

Council approves $750 in golf tournament sponsorships

Council approved three $250 dollar golf tournament sponsorships for the Morinville Lion’s Club, Morinville Rotary Club and Sturgeon Victim’s Services. Councillor Dafoe voted against all three motions, saying “I just don’t see [sponsoring the golf tournaments] as a proper use of tax dollars”. All other Councillors present supported both the Lions and Sturgeon Victim Services tournament sponsorships. Councillor Fitzgerald also voted against the Rotary sponsorship.
