Letter: Helping Hand Store closing its doors

Charity Shop

On Oct. 26, 1996 Femme Chretiennes transferred duties of the Helping Hand Store to the St. Jean Baptiste Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Morinville. The store was located where the Body Shop currently operates.

The Helping Hand Store moved to its new location next door in the back of Paul’s Confectionary in April 1999. On March 25, 2003 The Helping Hand Store was formed and took over the responsibilities for the store and continued as a non-profit organization. Eventually the Helping Hand moved to the front of the building.

Many donations were accepted from the community over the years. Any profits incurred from the sale of the donated goods [were] distributed to charitable causes.

Unfortunately, times have changed. Profits for the store have decreased as financial obligations have increased.

Recently, we received a letter to terminate the lease for the Helping Hand Store. It is not financially feasible for the Helping Hand to continue in another location. The store will be closing its doors as of Sept. 10, 2014.

We understand that our community will miss the service that we gladly provided over the last 18 years, but are relieved that the Midstream Support Society will be available to assist you with your needs.

Many thanks from the Helping Hand Store Society.
