Sturgeon County – Paintball enthusiasts are getting ready to take battle formations this weekend for the Op Valour II event at Grunts Paintball, located northeast of Morinville. The annual event, presented by Force on Force Tactical and Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), provides a full day of paintball combat simulation in aid of Valour Place, “a temporary home away from home for all Canadian Forces members, Families of the Fallen, Veterans and RCMP along with their families who require medical treatment in Edmonton, and live outside the city/area.”

paintball2Scott Collacutt, owner of Grunts Paintball said the event would put 150 to 250 players on the field. “It’s a large event. We raised over $6,000 last year and we are hoping to double that this year,” he said.

The afternoon event will put two teams on opposite side of the field in a full-on paintball battle with pyrotechnic mortar explosions to add to the realism. Lord Strathcona’s Horse will be adding to the military feel of the event. They will be bringing in a Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) and a Coyote Reconnaissance Vehicle. Additionally, Collacutt said a company is loaning the event a Bandvagn 206 or BV 206, an amphibious tank that will be used to take players from one end of the field to the other as well as play a role in the battle.

The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 13. Tickets are $60 per person and includes ammo, badges and a meal at the end of the event. For more information contact Grunts Paintball at 780-984-1516 or info@gruntspaintball.com.
