A local house party offered a unique way for newcomers to celebrate their culture while becoming part of their new community last week. Francophone residents of Morinville and area were invited to welcome the new francophones in town Sept. 17. The potluck dinner was followed by a Joël Lavoie performance, part of Home Routes house concert-circuit.

Lavoie is an Edmonton-based artist who currently performs with other local artists Mireille Moquin, Raphaël Freynet and Darren Maltais. He also performs with his bands Lavoie Férrée and Allez Ouest.

“I believe that, by welcoming the new francophone in town, and creating opportunities for them to gather with Morinville’s francophone residents, it will build a stronger francophone community,” said organizer Geneviève Lehoux.

Five house concerts are planned for this year. The next one will be on Oct. 19. More details are available at www.eventbrite.ca.
