Morinville Schools assist in bulb planting at Fish and Game Association pond

by Morinville News Staff

The Morinville Fish and Game Assocation pond will look a little more colourful next spring thanks to the efforts of students from Morinville Public Elementary School and Georges H. Primeau Middle School. Students from the two schools assisted Town of Morinville staff in planting daffodils and grape hyacinth (Muscari) bulbs at the pond Oct. 29.

“It is important to involve our young community members,” said Debbie Oyarzun, Chief Administrative Officer. “These types of projects provide hands-on learning and give students a sense of pride and ownership in our Town.”

bulbs3Morinville was one of eight municipal recipients to receive a Fortis Community Naturalization Grant this year. The monies have been used to enhance the Fish and Game Association pond area. Bat boxes were installed earlier this year as part of the initiative, and the planting of additional vegetation, both dragonfly- and bird-friendly plants was the next step to complete the project.

Approximately 32 Grade 8 students from Primeau and 33 students from Grade 5/6 and Grade 7 from the Morinville Public took part.
