Kings thaw the Ice

The Morinville Kings thawed the Edson Ice Saturday night with a 9-1 victory over the struggling team, currently sitting with a 4-5-0 record.

The Kings built their win from a 5-1 first period lead to an 8-1 gap at the end of the second period. The Senior AA club added another goal in the final frame to bring the final score to 9-1 in Morinville’s favour.

The boys follow the Jets on the ice Saturday night with an 8:30 p.m. home-ice game against the Westlock Warriors.

Wolves miss bronze in provincials

The Morinville Wolves Sr. Boys Volleyball team worked their way through the quarter finals in Fort McMurray Saturday afternoon against host Holy Trinity Catholic High School. The boys took the first set 25/19 but fell 26-24 in a hard-fought second set. Rallying back with a 16/14 third set win, the Wolves pushed on to face the McGrath Zeniths in the semi-final.

The Wolves lost two straight sets against the Zeniths to head to the Bronze-Medal final against the Strathcona Christian Eagles. The Wolves fell 25/20 in the first set and 25/14 in the second, losing their hopes at a bronze-medal in provincials.
