Morinville, Alberta – On January 16, 2015 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Morinville RCMP and emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 28 at the North entrance to the Town of Gibbons.

The driver and lone occupant of a pick-up travelling southbound on Range Road 233 failed to stop at the stop sign before entering Highway 28. The pickup then struck an eastbound tractor trailer unit.

The driver of the pickup was airlifted via STARS Air Ambulance and was transported to The Royal Alexandria Hospital in Edmonton with serious life-threatening injuries.

The east and westbound lanes of Highway 28 were closed while RCMP conducted their investigation and crews removed debris.

Speed and alcohol may have been factors in the incident. Road conditions at the time were slippery with icy sections.

The identity of the drivers are not being released at this time until family can be notified.

Morinville RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.
