The Morinville Lions Club inducted a number of new members into the service club Feb. 9.

Lions Multiple District 37L District Governor Bob Hunter, a Cardiff resident, performed the induction ceremony and said he was pleased with the District’s progress.

“We had a pretty good first half Lions year,” he said. “We had the highest membership growth rate in North America for our District with 154 members, and you were a great part of that,” Hunter told Morinville Lions.

The current 37L District will re-district July 1 as District C-1. Hunter said he believed the district, which will run north of Calgary to the Arctic Circle and include counties in North East British Columbia, will be the largest jurisdictional district of Lions Club in the world. The new District will have 117 clubs.

Two Morinville Lions Club members received Milestone Chevron Awards. Wayne Willis received a 15-year Award, and President Francis Fryters received a 30-year Award. Deborah Robillard received a Silver Membership Growth pin.

The evening’s agenda included a discussion of the annual Citizen of the Year Award, which the Morinville Lions Club will present at the Town Volunteer Appreciation Night Apr. 9. The club is in the process of setting up a committee to take in all nominations and select the successful recipient.
