church2Vandals struck Morinville’s historic St. Jean Baptiste Church on the evening of Apr. 3. The church and park sidewalk was spray painted with anti-theological and homophobic messages, including “I Hate God”, and “I Love Satin” (sic), as well as swastikas and anarchy symbols.

The vandalism occurred on the back, side and front doors of the church sometime between Good Friday and Saturday morning.

Outrage on social media was instant Saturday morning. As the church priest and other members of the parish worked to remove the graffiti ahead of Easter Sunday services, expressions of disgust and disbelief continued to build on Facebook.

As of our Sunday press deadline, Morinville RCMP had not issued a press release on the incident; however, anyone with information on the vandalism can call the Detachment at 780-939-4550.
