Legal Robbery leads police to Barrhead and arrests

Members of the Northern Alberta Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Barrhead, Friday at 11:20 a.m.

The search warrant was in relation to an armed robbery that occurred in Legal four days earlier on Apr. 6. That investigation identified a Barrhead male as the suspect. Police were able to contact two males inside the residence and they surrendered without incident.

Officers from Barrhead, Westlock, Swan Hills and Mayerthorpe searched the residence and seized evidence directly related to the armed robbery. Police also seized a large quantity of ammunition in several calibers, several grams of cocaine and a large quantity of cash.

After the search was completed, the suspect was located in Barrhead and arrested along with three other males. All suspects were interrogated and the location of the shotgun used in the robbery was discovered. The weapon used in the robbery has now been recovered along with one other long gun. The shotgun has since been recovered.

The name of the primary suspect will be released by Morinville Detachment when formal charges are laid.
