Kites, baseball and sand toys were the theme for the Morinville Public School Positive Playground experience held at the noon recess May 5.
MPS Vice-Principal Shawna Walter said the Positive Playground is up and running in the primary and elementary playgrounds during noon recess and introduces students to a variety of cooperative games and sports that promote physical activity and put play back into the playground.
“It provides students with an opportunity to try out different activities such as baseball, parachute games, ball hockey, tag games, foxtails, sand toys and kite flying,” Walter said. “The program uses elementary and junior high mentors to organize and run games. It promotes cooperation, sharing, fair play and sportsmanship. Our students are extremely excited to go out for noon recess and join the daily fun.”

The Morinville Community Cultural Centre was the venue for youth between the ages of 11-17 May 4. The free event included some fun sports events, including sumo wrestling, a gladiator Joust (above), basketball shoot, and other games. The event was the first of several planned for National Youth Week.
