Town relights the Light of Peace

by Tristan Turner

In a unanimous decision, Council has decided to relight the Light of Peace in the Saint Jean Baptiste Park 24 hours a day to commemorate the service of Canada’s veterans, service people currently serving in Canada, the conflict against ISIS/ISIL in the Middle East, as well to honor the hope and struggle for peace.

The light was installed in June of 2010 in a collaboration between the Town of Morinville and the St. Jean Baptiste Festival Society. The light was extinguished in 2014 with the end of the Afghan mission.

The request to relight the Light of Peace came from Morinville resident Lil Boddez, a member of the Festival Society in 2010.

Town Administration claims keeping the light on permanently will cost less than $2 a month.
