Tour de l’Alberta routes finalized with new stop at CFB Edmonton

Final preparations are being made for the 21st Anniversary edition of the Tour de l’Alberta which departs and finishes in Morinville Aug. 9.

The event offers cyclists from local, regional ad visiting cyclists a non-competitive bike tour through the picturesque Francophone communities within Sturgeon and Westlock counties. Routes include a family fun ride of roughly 15 kilometres as well as 50-km, 100-km and 160-km routes.

In addition to regular rest stops at Alcomdale, Westlock, Davis Farm, Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm and Legal, the organizing committee said they are pleased to add CFB Edmonton as a major rest stop for the 160km route.

“The Tour de l’Alberta is a shaping up to be a phenomenal event,” said Schaun Goodeve, Tour de l’Alberta Organizing Committee Lead, in a release Thursday. “The fully supported ride, scenic routes, and great ambiance throughout the day will make this a great one-day event for family and friends of all ages.”

This year, the Tour de l’Alberta start/finish and staging area is the Morinville Community Cultural Centre at 9502-100 Avenue. Ride start times begin with the 160-km route departing at 8 a.m., the 100-km at 9 a.m., 50-km at 10 a.m., and the Family Fun Ride departing last at 11 a.m.

The Tour de l’Alberta website contains detailed map routes. Bikers of all ages are asked to register online at http://www.tourdalberta.ca/. Registration forms can also be downloaded online and mailed with payment to the Town of Morinville.
