County couple bringing music to the park

The late afternoon storm that blew through Morinville Thursday cancelled the first of three Music in the Park events. Jan and Jim Baker were to bring the first of their Summer Music in the Park events to Town July 23; however, the event has been tentatively rescheduled for July 30. The event will feature singer/songwriter Jan Baker and Canadiana singer/songwriter John Spearn beneath the clock tower for 90 minutes of music. Police investigating drowning

Morinville, Alberta – On July 25th, 2015, at approximately 11:42 a.m., Morinville RCMP responded to a report of a missing 2 year old female child who had been playing at a park in the Lakes Subdivision with her siblings. The child from Morinville, was found unresponsive in a nearby pond by RCMP. Life saving efforts were initiated, but the child was later pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Services. Morinville RCMP and the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate. The RCMP will not be releasing any further details at this time. […]

Heritage Lodge has a new program coordinator

Morinville resident Keltie Brisson is Heritage Lodge’s new program coordinator, having taken over the reins from Mary Benson, now at Aspen Lodge. Brisson has 14 years experience in long-term care and continuing care. She is a certified recreation therapist through Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). “I decided to sell my day program,” she said, adding the business is located in Edmonton. “I sold my half and decided I needed to simplify and work in town. Thinking I’d take the summer off, this position popped up in the newspaper.” […]

Derby adds variety to Gibbons Pioneer Days

The Sturgeon County Junior Roller Derby Association was excited about holding their first junior invitational after two years in the sport. Junior skaters were invited to join SCJRDA for a double header Invitational that mixed Level 1 and 2 skaters in the first bout, followed by the harder-hitting Level 3s. The 10-mete, 15-m, 40-m antennas and 160 Dipole, as well as the 80-m Phased Verticals and the KLM Tribander are all his doing.
