Morinville Mayor Lisa Holmes will be the next president of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA). The AUMA is made up of elected officials from urban municipalities including cities, towns, villages, summer villages and specialized municipalities. The group advocates the interests of members to the provincial and federal governments as well as other stakeholders.
Holmes was the only candidate to file nomination papers to be president by Thursday’s 4:30 p.m. deadline.
She will take the position at the AUMA annual session in Calgary next week and will hold the office until the fall of 2017.
Former Morinville Mayor Lloyd Bertschi also previously served the provincial organization as president from 2007 to 2009.
Holmes is not the only local politician to file papers. Legal Councillor Trina Jones is running for Directors of Towns East, a position Holmes presently holds.
Jones will be running against Councillor Nichole Adams from Athabasca.
I trust that Mayor Holmes will devote her time & energy in completing the high priority items within the Town of Morinville? “Even the woodpecker owes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away until he finishes the job he starts.” –Coleman Cox —
