Sheldon Casavant amazes audience

The Morinville Community Cultural Centre kicked off its fifth LIVE at the CCC performance series Sept. 26. Half a decade into bringing entertainment to Morinville it is no surprise that Cultural Services Coordinator Laurie Stalker saw this season as a magical time and decided to book magician Sheldon Casavant for the Cultural Days kickoff.

Casavant, recognized as one of Canada’s most sought-after performers, was rewarded by a small but enthusiastic audience with laughter and applause throughout the one-hour show.

Whether intriguing audience members young and old with his adept skill at close up magic, or leaving them shaking their heads in puzzlement at his larger effects, Casavant’s approachable style and humour left the audience wanting more.

But Morinville got more than Casavant’s show. The magician recently wrote an illustrated children’s book titled Morton the Magician and his Magnificent Magic Show. The character from that book visited the Morinville Community Library for three mini-performances prior to the afternoon show.

Casavant show was the first of 11 performances that will hit the stage during the centre’s fifth season. Stalker has four children’s shows, two family shows, and three main stage events planned, as well as a special 5th Anniversary show now in the planning stages.

Saturday’s magic show was part of the KIDS Series, which is sponsored by Morinville Sobeys.
